You Encounter a Monster

You Encounter a Monster is a blog by Zack Corcoran, a cartoonist with a Portfolio.

This blog is a result of never being able to stop doodling and playing what is considered by 9 out of 10 self-proclaimed experts to be “too many” video games.

The idea is that these are for a game like Dragon Quest or EarthBound, leaning more toward the latter. In these games when you enter a battle with the enemy, the heroes are not shown, only the enemies are, and instead of fancy animation, flavor text and narration tells you what’s happening. I find that generally this lends itself better to humor in fights, with enemies wasting turns and performing attacks for weird reasons.

Entries on this blog consist of a picture of a monster, some text describing it, and then something it might do in battle. For now, monsters are categorized as Field Enemies (who you could run into anywhere), Bosses (who you would only encounter at predetermined times, and are stronger), and Flunkies (who only show up along with bosses).
